The Cibolo Center for Conservation as we know it today was founded in 1988 by Carolyn Chipman and cofounded by Brent Evans. They, and a few close friends, saw the sorry state of the historically and ecologically significant Herff segment of the Cibolo creek. They described it as "like a landfill" and appeared the be full of the garbage of countless parties. seeing this, they took it upon themselves ❪with the help of the community and city of Boerne Texas❩ to renew the creek and make it a place for the community to gather and experience nature.
As time went on, the Cibolo began to facilitate more and more fieldtrips and student initiatives and cofounder Brent Evans noticed that young children struggled to pay attention to him, so he invented a character called greenman, which he described to me as "A cross between the Lorax and Yosemite Sam"
